Arts Connect
We know that art has been acting as a tool of expression in all the changes, and revolutions that have happened over the years. It had been developed within a community by the people as a way of communication. We must remember that when there was no verbal language, art was the only way in which people used to communicate. With the development of human civilization, cognitive behaviour took the central role and verbal communication became the primary mode of communication. However, the usage of art or the need for art has never changed, may be transformed. Along with becoming a tool for entertainment, art also plays the role of self- expression for individuals and for society. Hence, all the transformation and evolution in the society affected the art and vis-a-vis. Therefore, every evolution created new art forms that transformed the usage of arts and the way in which they can be read or seen or understood. The art has been formulated within a certain community who is the torch-bearer of the society, of the revolution.
Bridging culture & Arts Foundation (B-CAF) aims to activate art as a tool for social inclusion, inclusive education and economic growth. The vision is to make arts and culture enablers of change. Therefore, our goal is to activate art and make art reachable to those for whom art is not easily accessible. We aim to reach out to the children of the communities who have less exposure and privilege to engage with it. Through Arts Connect Program, B-CAF aims to connect with different communities to use art as a tool of transformation. Arts connect with Non-Arts offering Inclusive education without scaling down Artistic value in the creation and/or expression in line with SDG Goal 4.
The Art Connect program offers workshops and sessions on drawing, theatre, poetry, folk art and other forms. There are children in many communities who have not seen or been exposed to theatre before. The workshop in theatre not only gives them new avenues of generating interest but also exposes them to the creativity of their own body and mind. There, a group of unknown children negotiates with each other which helps them to develop the skill of working in a group, dealing with others and working on themselves as well. As the art training process provides life development skills, the children learn to build self- esteem, develop self- confidence, generate new ideas and also learn to observe their own bodies and emotions. While they got to know themselves, the shared space creates a sense of commonality and bonding that helps a community to grow. In the case of children, the training process facilitates the practice of being together and at the same time, it also facilitates the process of nurturing self.
The Art Connect Program works as stimuli for the community to grow together and use creativity to channelize the expression. That also facilitates the process of exploring individuality as well as finding commonality within the group. That enhances group-bonding which help a community to raise together.
