BLUR/REAL

August 3 – 17 2024

At B-CAF Art Gallery

Blur/Real by Arka Alam is a visual art exhibition that delves into the intricate relationship between reality and abstraction. With a discerning eye, this exhibition primarily showcases a selection of street and fine art photography, making up the majority of the works on display, alongside a collection of narrative-driven paintings. The street photography captures the candid, unfiltered essence of urban and bucolic life, portraying spontaneous moments that reflect the mundane yet complex nature of human existence within both cityscapes and pastoral settings. In juxtaposition, the fine art photography section ventures into the conceptual and the surreal, employing several techniques to extend traditional boundaries and challenge the viewer’s grasp of reality.

Complementing these photographic works, the paintings play a crucial role in the narrative structure of the exhibition, adding layers of meaning and facilitating deeper contemplation. These paintings are not mere accompaniments but are integral to the thematic exploration, resonating with motifs of urban and rural existence, abstraction, and the human condition.

The dynamic interplay between photography and painting creates a dialogue that invites viewers to reflect on the fluidity of reality.

Blur/Real suggests to reassess how we perceive and interpret our surroundings, presenting an exploration that struggles to be intellectually stimulating and visually engaging. Through this exhibition, viewers are encouraged to engage with the existing aspects of the ordinary, the abstract qualities within the concrete, and the real elements within the blurred. Ultimately, Blur/Real leaves open a space for personal interpretation, allowing each viewer to find their own meaning and connection within the works on display.
