Silent Narratives – Objects in Dialogues

Apr 19 – May 3 2025 Silent Narratives: Objects in Dialogues by Malay Saha is a poignant exploration of the intricate relationship between objects and humans in the context of modern consumerism. Saha’s works unravel the hidden narratives embedded in everyday objects, critiquing the overwhelming pursuit of material possessions that often comes at the cost of genuine emotional connections and relationships. In this exhibition, Saha uses objects as metaphors to depict the psycho-social environment of contemporary life. Crowded and cluttered spaces in his paintings mirror the relentless consumerism that dominates urban existence, illustrating how the desire for material comfort, driven by propaganda, creates emotional voids and isolation. Chairs, a recurring motif in his work, carry layered meanings—ranging from emptiness, anticipation and nostalgia to power dynamics and loneliness. They stand as silent witnesses to the erosion of meaningful human interaction, highlighting the disconnection and emotional distance between individuals. Architectural elements such as labyrinthine staircases, multiple doors and windows further symbolize the disorienting distractions and fragmented choices of modern life. Curtains and drapes, whether tattered or ornate, underscore the fragility or superficiality of emotional boundaries, while everyday objects like stools, pots and pillows evoke a sense of emotional numbness within chaotic compositions. Through a vibrant yet unsettling colour palette, Malay masterfully constructs visual narratives that critique the dominance of materialism and the neglect of nature. His works confront viewers with the uncomfortable reality of being trapped within their possessions, challenging them to reflect on the deeper implications of their choices. Silent Narratives: Objects in Dialogues invites us to pause and reconsider the spaces we inhabit and the objects we surround ourselves with. It is a call to reconnect with what truly matters, urging a shift from the clutter of materialism to the clarity of meaningful connections and a more balanced existence.
