Vibrations between Italy and India – The contemporary scene

February 28 – March 9 2025 The exhibition, co-curated by Bruno Corà and Reena Dewan, presents the latest works from Simona Frillici’s Vibrations series. Inspired by photographic snapshots taken during her travels in India from 2020 to 2024, these works reflect Frillici’s ongoing exploration of the intersection between painting and photography. Her art captures fleeting human reflections on mirror-like surfaces, evoking an ephemeral humanity composed of shadows and figures dissolving into the ether. This project bridges artistic and cultural dialogues between Italy and India, emphasizing the value of engaging with distant worlds to foster fresh perspectives on contemporary realities. The Kolkata exhibition will feature a striking installation of large-scale prints on light, semi-transparent fabric. These images, visible from both front and back, will appear to float and move with the airflow generated by numerous fans in the exhibition space, creating a mesmerizing and immersive experience for viewers. Rooted in philosophical and scientific ideas—ranging from the ancient Greek concept of the “Music of the Spheres” to Rabindranath Tagore’s reflections on cosmic vibrations—Frillici’s Vibrations series explores the rhythms and energies that underpin existence. The works capture visual waves emanating from bodies, drifting, lingering, and ultimately disappearing, offering a poignant meditation on impermanence and the interconnectedness of all things. The Kolkata exhibition will also feature collaborations with local artists, musicians, and performers whose work aligns with Frillici’s artistic vision, fostering a rich interplay of mediums and cultural expressions. This initiative represents a significant milestone in Frillici’s decades-long artistic journey, culminating in a project that transcends boundaries and invites audiences to experience the rhythm of creation itself.
